Daily Check-in
Most mornings I would start the day with the grade 6/7 class with a daily check-in. Daily check-in included going around the room and asking students how they are on a scale of 1 – 10. Ten was doing great and one was not doing so great. Students would communicate with me where they are on the scale that day and why if they choose to. Students would usually share with me how their sleep was and something they did on the weekend or the night before. This was a great way to start the day, see where the students are at, and to see if I can help them with anything that they needed. If students were at the lower end of the scale then I communicated with them to let myself or my coaching teacher let me know if they needed anything throughout the day. If a student did not have time to get breakfast that morning then they were offered a granola bar or they can snack on some of their lunch during check-in. I enjoyed check-in as students communicate with me about their lives and I had the opportunity to get to know them better, what they liked to do for hobbies, learning about family pets they have and family members.
